THE STUDIO

a creative home in atlanta where working artists teach, beginners discover, and community forms around the act of making.

Exterior view of a storefront with large glass windows and a door, marked with the number A33, and a sign reading 'Arts Beacon' with a rainbow-colored beacon icon. Two black benches are outside. The area appears to be in a shopping district with other buildings and green trees reflected in the windows, under a blue sky.

OUR SPACE

MORE THAN A CLASSROOM

Arts Beacon is a working studio first. Our teachers are practicing artists who bring real creative lives into the room. We believe learning art is inseparable from people who make it every day.

the studio holds multiple mediums under one roof: painting, drawing, ceramics, printmaking, and more, with room to grow.

ROOTED IN ATLANTA’S ARTS COMMUNITY

OUR APPROACH

PROCESS-BASED
LEARNING

All of our adult and kid programming is based on process-based learning, where instructors help folks learn techniques with the aim that they grow in their own creative practice. Our studio is not like a paint and sip where people are given step by step instructions to produce a copy of an example painting.

Instead, our instructors are guides, who help students brainstorm how to solve problems and who encourage students to find their artistic voices. Fellow students become sounding boards and cheerleaders for each other, creating truly dynamic and supportive communities.

INCLUSIVE CREATIVE PRACTICE

It is our mission to be a community where all people and all creative practices are welcome. We love to learn new ways to create and explore and play. And we want our studio to be a place where you can learn a variety of skills and where the learning never stops.

All ability levels are welcome. Whether you haven’t picked up a paint brush since middle school or you are an art school graduate looking for a community of artists to grow with (and anyone in between), there is a place for you here.

ART AS HEALTH

Art is a vital component of a healthy life. While we love being creative for the joy of making, we know that engaging in the arts lowers stress and anxiety and induces the “flow state”. this is where we get completely absorbed in a task, helping us process complex emotions and building a sense of worth.

Making art is an act of mending ourselves. Doing this in a group setting fosters social connection, combats isolation, and creates opportunities for encouragement, belonging, and shared discovery. Our studio strives to be a place where people can feel safe and supported as they connect to others and themselves through art.

ARTS BEACON is run by two artists who experienced the studio first as part of the community, and now as teachers keeping the beacon lit. they continue to cultivate an unpretentious and community-driven space led by real-working artists.
