Explore form, function, and content in this beginner-friendly bookmaking class, which will focus on a variety of folded and soft-cover book forms and the things we put in them. We’ll begin by playing with a variety of traditional and unexpected materials to create a collection of painted papers to use in our books. We’ll create single-page books (zines and meandering book forms), flexagons, lotus books, accordion books (with variations), and pamphlets and double-pamphlet stitched books. Our deconstructed painted pages will give each book initial loose marks and imagery, and we will spend time going back into our book forms with content prompts for drawing, painting, or collage. This class is open to all levels of makers who’d like to explore simple book forms as containers for images, mark-making, text, and experimentation.
Instructor: Meredith Eastburn
Supply list TBD
Fall Session I runs from August 10 through October 9, 2026. There will be a break the week of September 7 (Labor Day week). 8 sessions.
Tuesdays 10:00am to 12:00pm
